Thoughts

Meera was a part of the Resource Management Group family at CIBC. We are a tight knit group of individuals, with our own quirks, we look out for each other, are there for each other no matter what – it is our working style. Meera was a critical part of our team, our family. Her tenacity, playful attitude, kindness and intelligence made every day memorable. She had a striking ability to keep calm in the stressful situations, always providing clarity and direction to the group no matter the circumstances. Meera knew how to have fun while working hard and it was infections to the team. She kept everyone in line using her clever wit and always with a smile. Only she could tell it like it is and win everyone over, every time. She knew when it was time for us to take a break - play and have fun. She always knew just where to go – bringing us closer, keeping us together. Through her lighthearted nature she gave everyone strength. When I first met Meera we didn’t get along… we were both head strong and not until we went head to head did we collectively decide – hey you’re not half bad - and from there we became close. We saw similarities in each other beyond being one of the few female on the floor, beside us being the same age – we helped each other with what seems like silly problems now, more importantly we talked about our dreams together. Meera introduced me to some of her friends who were all strong individuals and loving just like her. She helped me through hard times - knew just what to say, how to be, when to give tough love and hugs. I always felt like I owed so much to her for that and I told her all the time and she would always say ‘don’t be silly’. Her kindness, generosity and understanding are qualities that I will always keep close to my heart. Throughout her battle she never let fear or worry consume her - her bravery and determination will forever be admired. Meera first and foremost was my friend. She brought life, colour and sass in everything she did. She was clever and always kept a level head in any situation with her wit, kindness and strong character. Meera never let anyone push her around which is no easy feat when working on a bustling trading floor with high stakes, pressure and urgency coming from every angle. She always kept her cool and was able to see clearly in tough situations. Meera was funny! She could make anyone laugh without trying, it was her way with words and sarcasm, she always had the perfect timing. Meera had such a big heart - so loving, giving; she would do thoughtful, generous acts of kindness just because. The day she started fighting for her life and every day after, she never complained.... she inspired so many people and as her legacy lives on her story will continue to inspire people. She was a bright shining star in all of our lives and will continue to shine down from heaven. There are no words to describe the heartache losing her has brought. She touched so many lives - we are all grieving together. To the Popat family, I am so deeply sorry for your loss, I hope you take comfort in the fact that a piece of Meera will live in all of us forever. With all my love. Sending love and prayers always, Jessica

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
